Winter workouts begin tomorrow morning, January 8, at 5:15am in the CHS large gym. Information for our winter program first went out back in November. However, I am sending out the specifics one last time to try to answer as many questions as I can.
First and foremost, ALL players are expected to stay informed as to any changes that may be taking place throughout our 7 week program. It is the goal of our coaching staff to try to get outside after school this year on days that the weather allows us to do so. We could potentially be making changes to practice times as a result. Those changes will be posted on this website. Check it often. School announcements are used to communicate information to the players from time to time as well. I am in 507L throughout the day. If you have any questions stop by and ask. Players are encouraged and expected to start taking charge of their baseball responsibilities. If they haven't already.
9th and 10th graders practice Monday and Wednesdays, 5:15am-6:45am; 11th and 12th graders Tuesday and Thursdays at the same time. **Saturday practices are called by the coaches when the weather allows us to get outside.
**So, with the above in mind, our first change is for the Juniors and Seniors on Tuesday, January 9. We will practice outside immediately after school. Practice will end at 5:00.
Freshman and Sophomores - your first day is tomorrow morning. Enter the school through the athletic entrance on the east side of the building. Doors will be open at 5:00am. The locker room will be open to change before and after practice. Bring all necessary equipment with the exception of cleats. Shorts are ok to wear as well. Baseball pants are not required. Each player will be given a practice shirt to wear to each practice (which needs to be cleaned each week at least), and a blue Chaparral hat is required. We will have hats for sale if you need to purchase one tomorrow. $10. The Chap hat and practice shirt is the required uniform for each indoor practice. For outside practices, players are expected to dress warmer with sleeves on their arms unless told they can go without by their coaches. All clothing items for club/summer teams need to stay at home.
Coaches will be collecting registrations and the $275 participation fee this week on Monday and Tuesday. Checks made out to Chap Baseball. There is no electronic payment option. Registration form can be found here. Both the fee and the registration are separate from what will be require to participate in the actual season, which starts Feb 26. For that registration process and payment, you will go through the athletic office at Chaparral. Nothing comes to me.
Players are expected to be following the Chaparral Baseball winter workout schedule. Players are encouraged to work out on their own outside of the days that we see them. However, those extra workouts can not be interfering with what our coaching staff is trying to accomplish with our players or contradicting anything that we are teaching.
Hopefully I've covered most of the concerns I have heard today. If there are any additional questions, feel free to email me at my school email address.
Thanks. GO CHAP!!
